Which DEX token is best? Short answer (October 20, 2026)
- Biggest fee base: HYPE, $78.98, market cap $17.57B (87% of the three combined). Hyperliquid's assistance fund bought 174,724 HYPE for $16.3M in one week; staking cuts every Hyperliquid fee by 5–40%.
- Most explicit buyback and burn: ASTER, $0.7059, market cap $1.92B. 99% of Aster fees buy ASTER for stakers, and an equal amount is burned until supply falls from 8B to 3B. It trades 71% below its high.
- Only fixed staking yield: LIT, $3.11, market cap $777.5M. 6% APR, 3 days to unstake; discounts only Lighter Premium. 75% of supply is not yet circulating.
You do not need any of them to trade cheaply: a referral code is the free discount.

Prices, market cap, FDV, supply, ATH and volume: CoinGecko /coins/markets, October 20, 2026, 00:59 UTC. Fees and holders revenue: DefiLlama, 30 days to September 27, 2026; "annualised" = 30-day figure × 365 / 30. Holders revenue is the part of fees DefiLlama counts as going to token holders (buybacks and staker payouts).

Staking, discounts and buybacks: Hyperliquid API and docs, Aster docs (tokenomics and staking, re-read September 27, 2026), Lighter docs and posts. HYPE's circulating supply differs by source: CoinGecko 222.4M, Hyperliquid's API 298.7M.
2. The exchanges behind the tokens
A token is only as strong as the venue paying into it. On 30-day perp volume (DefiLlama, September 26, 2026) Hyperliquid did $216.95B, Aster $68.13B and Lighter $53.91B. Hyperliquid runs on its own L1 with 178 perps (as of October 20, 2026); Aster runs its own Aster Chain with hidden orders plus a 1001x mode; Lighter's default account charges 0% maker and taker.

3. HYPE (Hyperliquid)
HYPE is the staking and gas token of Hyperliquid's L1. Trading on HyperCore costs no gas, so for a trader HYPE matters through fee discounts, staking and what the protocol does with fees. Full background: our HYPE token guide.
- Supply: the cap is 1B. Hyperliquid's API reported 998.9M total (the cap minus burned HYPE) and 298.7M circulating on September 26, 2026, with 411.2M reserved for future emissions. CoinGecko shows 955.3M total and 222.4M circulating, which is why HYPE market caps differ between sites; other totals quoted online (such as ~962M) match neither source.
- Staking: delegate to one of 27 active validators (35 in total). 437M HYPE was staked on October 6, 2026, and validators predicted about 2.12–2.23% APR on October 19, 2026. Delegations lock for 1 day; unstaking takes a 7-day queue. Steps: Hyperliquid staking.
- Fee discounts: staked HYPE takes 5% (more than 10 HYPE) to 40% (more than 500,000 HYPE) off every Hyperliquid fee, on top of the volume tier.
- Fees and HYPE: fees go to the community (HLP, market deployers and the assistance fund), not a team treasury. The assistance fund turns fees into HYPE: it held 47.5M HYPE on September 26, 2026, counted as non-circulating.
Bull case (facts only)
- Largest holders revenue of the three: $56.4M in 30 days (DefiLlama, September 27, 2026), 13x Aster's.
- Steady buying: 174,724 HYPE ($16.3M) bought by the assistance fund in the 7 days to September 26, 2026.
- Staking discounts apply to all trading, so active traders have a reason to hold.
- The largest 30-day perp volume of the three venues ($216.95B, DefiLlama, September 26, 2026).
Key risks
- FDV $75.45B: 4.3x the market cap.
- 411.2M HYPE reserved for future emissions; 241.4M HYPE sits at one genesis address counted as non-circulating.
- Staking yield is low (~2.12–2.23%) and falls as more HYPE is staked.
- Revenue depends on Hyperliquid's volume staying high.
4. ASTER (Aster)
ASTER replaced the earlier APX token. Its tokenomics (Aster docs, re-read September 27, 2026):
- Allocation of 8B: airdrop 53.5% (8.8% unlocked at the September 2025 TGE, the rest released over about 80 months), ecosystem and community 30% (now paid out as staking emissions), treasury 7% (locked until governance uses it), team 5% (24-month cliff, then 10M ASTER a month), liquidity and listings 4.5%.
- Buyback to stakers: since June 17, 2026, 99% of daily platform fees buy ASTER by TWAP into a public wallet, and all of it goes to veASTER stakers on top of the 300,000 ASTER weekly loyalty pool (plus a 150,000 ASTER base pool). Each permissionless spot listing pays 50,000 USDT, which also buys ASTER for stakers.
- Burn: for every ASTER bought back, an equal amount is burned from reserve, team allocation first, every two weeks until total supply reaches 3B (62.5% below the 8B cap).
- Staking: choose a lock of up to 208 weeks; longer locks get more weight, and exiting early costs a penalty. Steps: Aster staking guide.
- Trading utility: paying spot fees in ASTER gives 5% off (spot only). From VIP 2 upward, Aster's tiers need both volume and an ASTER balance (VIP 2: $5M of 14-day volume and 500 ASTER). Fees: Aster fees.
Bull case (facts only)
- The most direct value capture here: 99% of daily fees buy ASTER, all paid to stakers.
- An equal burn keeps cutting total supply toward 3B, starting with the team's tokens.
- $68.13B of 30-day perp volume, second of the three (DefiLlama, September 26, 2026).
- Stakers are paid in ASTER bought with fees, not only in newly emitted tokens.
Key risks
- 66% of the 8B cap is not circulating; airdrop releases run for about 80 months.
- Burns come from reserve (tokens not yet circulating), so they do not shrink the circulating supply the way buybacks do.
- 71% below its $2.41 high of September 24, 2025.
- Fees of $6.1M in 30 days are small next to its volume, so the buyback is modest in dollars.
5. LIT (Lighter)
LIT, the Lighter Infrastructure Token, has a fixed cap of 1B, of which 250M circulate on CoinGecko. Lighter's default Standard account trades at 0% maker and 0% taker, so LIT is not needed to trade cheaply; its utility targets heavier users:
- Fixed staking yield: stakers earn a fixed 6% APR, paid in LIT; unstaking has a 3-day lockup. 112.8M LIT was staked on September 27, 2026. Lighter said in June 2026 that the yield is funded from remaining ecosystem tokens and can be adjusted.
- LLP access: the Lighter Liquidity Pool is open only to LIT stakers, up to 10 USDC per LIT staked. Steps: Lighter LLP and LIT staking.
- Premium discounts: on the optional Premium account (0.0280% taker / 0.0040% maker), staked LIT cuts fees by 2.5% at 1,000 LIT up to 30% at 500,000 LIT.
- Buybacks and burn: the protocol bought back about 15.5M LIT with exchange revenue by June 2026 and burned 15,638,702 LIT on July 10, 2026 (Lighter's posts). Airdrop and points history: Lighter points and the LIT airdrop; for every venue's current points status, see perp DEX airdrops and points programs.
Bull case (facts only)
- The only fixed yield of the three: 6% APR.
- Revenue already bought back and burned 15,638,702 LIT.
- Staking is the gate to the LLP vault, which gives LIT a use beyond fee discounts.
- The lowest market cap per dollar of holders revenue of the three (23x).
Key risks
- 75% of supply not circulating; team and investors (50%) are locked for one year from the December 30, 2025 launch, then vest over three years.
- Most Lighter volume pays 0% fees, so revenue comes from Premium accounts and other sources.
- The 6% yield comes from the ecosystem allocation and can be changed.
- 60% below its $7.86 high, set on launch day (December 30, 2025).
6. Market cap vs revenue
Competitor pages compare prices; a fairer test is how much of each exchange's fee income reaches holders, and what the market pays for it. Using DefiLlama's holders revenue for the 30 days to September 27, 2026, annualised:
| October 20, 2026 | Holders revenue, 30d | Annualised | Market cap ÷ revenue | FDV ÷ revenue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HYPE (Hyperliquid) | $56.4M | $686.1M | 26x | 110x |
| ASTER (Aster) | $4.4M | $53.5M | 36x | 103x |
| LIT (Lighter) | $2.8M | $34.2M | 23x | 91x |
On market cap, LIT is the cheapest per dollar of holders revenue (23x) and ASTER the most expensive (36x). On FDV, which counts every token that will ever exist, the order is LIT (91x), ASTER (103x), HYPE (110x). The multiples sit closer together than the market caps do: HYPE is ~9x ASTER by size largely because Hyperliquid earns ~13x as much.
Caveats: one month of revenue is noisy, Aster's current buyback rule only started on June 17, 2026, and "holders revenue" is DefiLlama's classification, not an audited figure. Use the multiples to compare, not to predict prices.
7. Fee discounts in dollars
Take a trader doing $1M of taker volume a month at each venue's entry tier, with token prices from October 20, 2026:
| Set-up | Taker rate | Monthly fees on $1M | Token needed (value) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyperliquid, no code | 0.045% | $450 | None |
| Hyperliquid + HOLYGRAIL | 0.0432% | $432 | None |
| Hyperliquid + Bronze staking (>100 HYPE) + code | ≈0.0389% | ≈$389 | ≈$7,898 |
| Hyperliquid + Silver staking (>1,000 HYPE) + code | ≈0.0367% | ≈$367 | ≈$78,980 |
| Lighter Standard | 0% | $0 | None |
| Lighter Premium, 0 LIT | 0.0280% | $280 | None |
| Lighter Premium, 10,000 LIT (10% off) | 0.0252% | $252 | ≈$31,100 |
| Aster order-book perps | 0.040% | $400 | None |
Discounts pay back slowly unless you trade a lot. Bronze staking saves about $43 a month here on a stake worth about $7,898, and the stake carries HYPE's price risk. The referral code is the only discount that costs nothing: see HOLYGRAIL and Hyperliquid fees.
Hyperliquid
HYPE/USDC spot and 178 perps (as of October 20, 2026). HOLYGRAIL = 4% off.
8. Buybacks and burns compared
- HYPE: the assistance fund buys HYPE on the open market with fees ($16.3M in the 7 days to September 26, 2026) and holds it as non-circulating; the docs describe it as burned. Stakers are paid from emissions, not fees.
- ASTER: 99% of daily fees buy ASTER for stakers, and an equal amount is burned from reserve until supply is 3B. In dollars: $4.4M of holders revenue in 30 days against a $1.92B market cap.
- LIT: daily TWAP buybacks from fee revenue; about 15.5M LIT bought by June 2026 and 15,638,702 burned on July 10, 2026. Staking rewards come from the ecosystem allocation.
A market buyback removes tokens that were trading; a burn "from reserve" retires tokens that were not yet circulating. Both shrink total supply, but only the first takes tokens off the market. Read both numbers when comparing.
9. Risks all three share
- Price risk dwarfs yield. A single day's move can exceed a year of staking yield; ASTER is 71% and LIT 60% below their highs.
- Unlocks and emissions. Not yet circulating: 78% of HYPE's cap (CoinGecko basis), 66% of ASTER's and 75% of LIT's.
- Lock-ups. 7 days to unstake HYPE, 3 days for LIT, up to 208 weeks for ASTER with an early-exit penalty.
- Revenue depends on volume. Buybacks shrink when trading slows. Live volumes: perp DEX ranking.
- Data sources disagree. Check which circulating supply a market cap uses before comparing sites.
None of this is investment advice. If you trade on these venues anyway, the token question is mostly whether a discount repays the stake at your volume.
10. How to get and stake each token
- HYPE: deposit USDC on Hyperliquid, buy HYPE/USDC spot, then stake it under the Staking tab and delegate to a validator. Guides: Hyperliquid spot, staking.
- ASTER: buy on Aster spot or deposit ASTER from BNB Chain, then stake on Aster Chain and choose a lock (Aster deposits).
- LIT: trade LIT/USDC on Lighter spot, then stake from the Staking page (3 days to unstake).

11. FAQ
HYPE vs ASTER: which is better?
It depends on what you want from the token, and this is not investment advice. HYPE is the established leader: its market cap was $17.57B on October 20, 2026, about 9x ASTER's $1.92B, and Hyperliquid generated $56.4M of holders revenue in the 30 days to September 27, 2026 (DefiLlama) against $4.4M for Aster. ASTER is the challenger with the most explicit value-capture rule (99% of daily fees buy ASTER for stakers, plus an equal burn until supply is 3B), but 66% of its maximum supply is not yet circulating.
Is HYPE a good coin to buy?
We do not give buy or sell advice. The facts: on October 20, 2026 HYPE traded at $78.98, 19.4% below its $97.96 all-time high of September 23, 2026. It has the largest fee base of any DEX token here, and its assistance fund spent $16.3M buying HYPE in the 7 days to September 26, 2026. Against that, its FDV ($75.45B) is 4.3x its market cap and 411.2M HYPE are reserved for future emissions.
Is ASTER worth buying?
That is your call; here is what the numbers show. On October 20, 2026 ASTER traded at $0.7059, 70.7% below its $2.41 high of September 24, 2025. Aster sends 99% of daily fees into ASTER buybacks for stakers and burns an equal amount from reserve. But the airdrop allocation keeps releasing for about 80 months, the team allocation unlocks 10M ASTER a month after its cliff, and burns come from tokens that were not circulating.
Why is Aster crypto so popular?
Three facts explain most of the attention. Aster ran a long points program feeding a large airdrop allocation (53.5% of the 8B supply). It offers a 1001x mode (up to 1001x on BTC) alongside order-book perps on crypto, stocks and commodities, with hidden orders and positions and its own chain (Aster Chain). And it trades at scale: DefiLlama showed $68.13B of 30-day perp volume on September 26, 2026, behind Hyperliquid's $216.95B.
Will HYPE reach $100?
Nobody can tell you, and we do not make price predictions. For scale: on October 20, 2026 HYPE was $78.98, so $100 is 26.6% above that price. HYPE's all-time high is $97.96, set on September 23, 2026 (CoinGecko).
HYPE vs LIT: what is the difference?
HYPE is about 23x larger by market cap ($17.57B vs $777.5M on October 20, 2026). Staking HYPE cuts every Hyperliquid fee by 5–40%; staking LIT pays a fixed 6% APR and only discounts Lighter's optional Premium account, because the default Standard account already trades at 0%. LIT has 75% of supply still to circulate, with team and investor tokens (50%) locked for one year from the December 30, 2025 launch.
Which DEX token has the highest staking yield?
LIT: a fixed 6% APR per Lighter's docs, with a 3-day unstaking lockup. HYPE staking paid about 2.12–2.23% (validators' predicted APR, October 19, 2026); the rate falls as more HYPE is staked. ASTER rewards depend on your lock length and the weekly fee buyback, so there is no single rate. Yield paid in the token does not protect you from its price falling.
Do I need the token to trade cheaply?
No. Hyperliquid's base taker rate is 0.045% without HYPE, and a referral code takes 4% off; staking HYPE adds 5–40% off. Lighter's Standard account is already 0% maker and taker. Aster's token discount is 5% on spot fees paid in ASTER; its perpetuals fee docs list no ASTER discount.
Are points or airdrops still running?
Not on the main exchanges as of September 27, 2026. Hyperliquid's points ended with the November 29, 2024 genesis airdrop. Aster's Stardust season ran March 30 – August 30, 2026 and its page reads "Paused". Lighter's docs say points Season 2 ended on December 26, 2025, before LIT launched on December 30, 2025, and it keeps the rest of its ecosystem allocation (25% of supply) for future seasons and growth.
