1. How many coins are on Hyperliquid? Markets by asset class

178 coins trade as crypto perps on the main exchange, and 340 perp markets exist in total once you add the 162 HIP-3 markets; there are also 336 spot pairs (October 20, 2026, 03:53 UTC). Hyperliquid has two kinds of perp markets. The main exchange is run by the validators and lists crypto only. HIP-3 exchanges are deployed by builders on the same engine (HyperCore) and carry stocks, stock indices, commodities, currencies and more. The asset class below is Hyperliquid’s own label for each HIP-3 market (the API’s perpConciseAnnotations), not our guess.

How we count. The raw perp response holds 234 entries; 56 of them are delisted (old names such as MATIC, FTM, RNDR and MKR) and are excluded here, which is why some lists show inflated totals. HIP-3 exchanges are not in the main response at all: you list them with perpDexs and query each one. The app’s market selector shows the same markets, with HIP-3 tickers carrying a prefix such as xyz:.

2. All crypto perp markets on Hyperliquid (live)

All 178 active perps on the main exchange, sorted by 24-hour volume. Type a ticker or a category (for example “meme” or “AI”) to filter. Open interest is converted to USD at the mark price. Funding is the current hourly rate; the baseline is 0.00125% an hour (0.01% per 8 hours), so anything higher means longs are paying a premium. 145 of 178 markets sat exactly at the baseline at this reading.

api.hyperliquid.xyz/info metaAndAssetCtxs, October 20, 2026, 03:53 UTC. Price is the mark price in USD; 24h is the change from the price 24 hours earlier (prevDayPx). Names exactly as the API returns them: a “k” prefix (kPEPE, kBONK, kSHIB) means 1,000 tokens per contract. Categories are our grouping.

What the table says. Liquidity is concentrated: the top 5 markets carry 81% of volume and the top 10 carry 92%. 66 markets traded more than $1M in 24 hours and 37 traded less than $100,000; in those, use limit orders and keep size small against open interest. Markets where open interest is several times daily volume (HYPE is the classic example) are positional: funding matters more there than fees. The highest funding rates are usually on 3x and 5x alts, which is where holding a long costs most (see Hyperliquid funding rate).

3. Hyperliquid crypto perps by category

The API has no sector field for native perps, so this grouping is ours; tickers inside each group are sorted by today’s volume, with max leverage in brackets. Anything newly listed that we have not classified yet lands in “Other and new listings” automatically.

At this reading the biggest group by volume was majors and layer 1s (74% of main-exchange volume), while the 22 meme coins together traded $37.2M: many tickers, thin books. Gold on the main exchange means PAXG, a gold-backed token; perps priced off gold, silver and oil themselves are on HIP-3 (next section and our guide to Hyperliquid gold).

5. Does Hyperliquid have stocks? HIP-3 stock, index, commodity and FX perps

Yes. At October 20, 2026, 03:53 UTC Hyperliquid had 130 stock and ETF perps, 7 index perps and 9 commodity perps, all on HIP-3 exchanges, mostly trade.xyz (most traded: SKHX (SKHYNIX), SNDK, TSLA, SPCX, MU, SOXL). They are perpetual contracts that track the share price with USDC margin from the same account; you do not own the share, and most are isolated-margin only. HIP-3 lets builders deploy their own perp exchanges on HyperCore. Their markets do not appear in the main list; you query each exchange separately. How deployers stake, set oracles and earn fees is in our Hyperliquid HIP-3 guide. Registered HIP-3 exchanges at this reading:

trade.xyz (dex xyz) is the one that matters: 115 live markets and $3.21B of 24-hour volume at this reading, led by SKHX (SKHYNIX), XYZ100, SP500 (S&P500). 110 of its 115 markets were in growth mode, which cuts fees to 0.009% taker / 0.003% maker; the rest cost 0.090% / 0.030% at tier 0. 6 other registered HIP-3 exchanges had no live markets. 6. Weekends and market hours

Crypto perps never close: all 178 trade 24/7, including weekends and holidays. HIP-3 perps also stay open 24/7, but their price source changes when the underlying market is shut. On trade.xyz (from its docs, read September 27, 2026):

• US stocks take external prices 24/5, Sunday 8:05 PM to Friday 8:00 PM ET (pre-market, regular, post-market and overnight sessions). The S&P 500 perp follows futures hours, Sunday 6:00 PM to Friday 5:00 PM ET, with a daily 5–6 PM ET maintenance window Monday to Thursday; gold takes external prices over the same Sunday-to-Friday window. Japanese stocks such as SoftBank take external prices from 8:20 AM to 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM to 11:59 PM Tokyo time.
• While the underlying is closed, the oracle advances as a moving average of the xyz order book’s own impact prices (30-minute time constant), inside discovery bounds that cap how far the price can run. The external reference stays frozen at the last close.
• When the market reopens, the oracle snaps back to the external price on the next update. If the stock gaps past your liquidation price, you are liquidated at the reopen.
• Corporate actions can close positions too. For Kioxia’s 3-for-1 stock split on September 28, 2026, trade.xyz announced it would settle every KIOXIA position at the official Tokyo closing price (15:30 JST, converted at the oracle’s USD/JPY rate), cancel all orders including take-profit and stop-loss, and reopen at one third of that price on the post-split basis. Positions are not carried over; you reopen them yourself.

Liquidity follows the clock. On Thursday, September 25, 2026 (17:03 UTC) trade.xyz traded $2.33B in 24 hours; on Saturday, September 26 (21:50 UTC) it was $367M in our API readings. Use smaller size and limit orders on weekends, and read the trade.xyz guide for discovery bounds per market.

7. Newest Hyperliquid listings

The most recent markets on the main exchange and on HIP-3, dated by their first daily candle in the API (the first trading day) within the last 120 days. Validator listings are also announced in the app under Announcements → Listings.

8. Max leverage and leverage tiers

Hyperliquid sets leverage per asset, and it is lower than many assume. You can pick any whole number from 1 to the market’s maximum.

Leverage tiers. On the biggest markets the maximum steps down as your position grows (margin tiers). The docs define maintenance margin per tier as half the initial margin at that tier’s max leverage, with a deduction so total margin is continuous. Tiered markets at this reading:

marginTables in the meta response; tables with IDs under 50 are single-tier with max leverage equal to the ID (the 3x and 5x markets). Docs: trading/margin-tiers.

Maintenance margin is half the initial margin at max leverage: 1.25% on BTC (40x), 2% on ETH (25x), 2.5% on 20x markets, 5% on 10x, 10% on 5x and 16.7% on 3x. 9. Contract specifications

From Hyperliquid’s contract specifications (read September 27, 2026). They apply to the validator-operated crypto perps; HIP-3 deployers set their own oracle, leverage and margin mode on the same engine.

Maximum order size depends on the market’s max leverage. A limit order can be up to 10 times the market-order cap.

10. Cross, isolated and isolated-only markets

Cross margin is the default: all cross positions share collateral. Isolated margin confines a position’s collateral to that position. Two stricter modes exist, both set by the market, not by you:

• Strict isolated: isolated, and margin cannot be removed while the position is open (it is released proportionally as you close). At this reading none of the 178 active main-exchange markets was isolated-only; the flag appears only on delisted entries.
• No cross (HIP-3 only): isolated with margin removal allowed, but no cross margin. At this reading 135 of 162 live HIP-3 markets were no-cross or strict isolated. On trade.xyz the 21 markets that allowed cross margin were SKHX, XYZ100, SP500, CL, SNDK, TSLA, SPCX, MU, BRENTOIL, GOOGL, NVDA, SKHY…; the other 94 (for example SOXL, SMSN, UNITREE, CRWV, EWY) were isolated only.

Practical effect: most stock perps cannot share margin with your BTC cross position, so fund them separately and check each liquidation price. Details: cross vs isolated margin.

11. Spot pairs vs perps

Spot on Hyperliquid is a separate order book of real tokens: no leverage on the pair itself, no funding, no liquidation. At this reading there were 336 pairs, 319 of them quoted in USDC (the rest in USDH, USDT0 or USDE), but only 106 traded at all in 24 hours and 17 traded more than $100,000. Tokens whose name starts with U (UBTC, UETH, USOL, UZEC) are Unit-bridged versions of the native coin, which is how you can deposit BTC and sell it on the spot book.

12. Delistings

Delistings of validator-operated perps are decided by a validator vote. When a perp is delisted, it settles to the 1-hour time-weighted spot oracle price before the scheduled delisting time: all positions are settled, open orders are cancelled and no new orders are accepted. If you hold a position in a small market, watch Announcements → Delistings in the app and close early if you do not want the settlement price. The API keeps delisted entries in the response with isDelisted: true; there were 56 at this reading. On HIP-3, the deployer manages its own markets and can halt trading on one.

13. Where you can trade these markets

All of these order books live on HyperCore, so any front end that connects to Hyperliquid reaches the same liquidity. What changes is the fee on top and which markets the app shows.

Order matters if you plan to use an app. Your Hyperliquid code follows your wallet into apps you connect with it, such as Based and Liquid, and the 4% comes off Hyperliquid’s part of the fee there too. Connect the same wallet (Rabby or MetaMask): signing in to an app with email, Google or Apple creates a new Hyperliquid account without your code. But apps such as Phantom often set their own Hyperliquid referral code on accounts that have none, so enter a code on Hyperliquid before you start using an app (join with HOLYGRAIL). fomo is the exception: fomo has no wallet connection (Apple, Google or email only) and creates its own wallet and Hyperliquid account for you, so a Hyperliquid code such as HOLYGRAIL cannot apply there. Use fomo’s own referral code there instead.

14. How to choose a market

• Scalping or size: stay with the top 10 by volume. Hyperliquid’s spreads on BTC and ETH are fractions of a basis point; below the top 20 the book thins fast (slippage guide).
• Swing trades: the top 40 are fine for retail size, but check the funding column. A market paying 0.02% an hour costs a long about 0.48% a day.
• Long-tail alts: under about $1M a day, use limit orders only and remember most are 3x.
• Stocks, indices, commodities: use the HIP-3 markets, mind isolated-only margin and the trading hours of the underlying (section 6).
• Mobile: third-party apps show the same order books but add a builder fee (section 13).

15. Pull the list yourself

Send a POST to https://api.hyperliquid.xyz/info with Content-Type: application/json and the body {"type":"metaAndAssetCtxs"}. The response is a two-element array: universe (name, maxLeverage, szDecimals, marginTableId, and isDelisted or marginMode where set) plus marginTables, and a parallel list of contexts with dayNtlVlm, openInterest (base units, multiply by markPx), funding, oraclePx, markPx, prevDayPx and impactPxs. For spot use spotMetaAndAssetCtxs and match contexts by coin, not by position. For HIP-3, call perpDexs, then add "dex":"xyz"; perpConciseAnnotations gives each HIP-3 market’s asset class and display name. No key is needed; for continuous data use the WebSocket (API guide).
